Contraction and Conversion is a framework for cutting global carbon emissions that balances the needs of each individual with the biosphere’s tolerance of greenhouse gases. C&C was devised by Aubrey Meyer, a musician turned environmentalist who was nominated by a cross party group of MPs for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2008.

C&C addresses the key issue of how to share the burden of cutting global carbon emissions amongst all countries in a way that is proportionate and just.

There are several proposals in play for cutting carbon emissions, but C&C is increasingly seen as the way forward following Cancun and is gaining political support because of its simplicity, equity and compelling rationale. The Gilardini Foundation is determined to help communicate C&C to the widest possible global public.
